Recyling Containers with Sandie Edwards

My Creative Scrapbook Design Team member Sandie Edwards is back to share how she used her leftovers from our February Main kit to transform a beverage container into a beautiful desk accessory!

Here's Sandie...

Using some of the left over papers and embellishments from the Main Kit, I recycled a sturdy drinking chocolate container, and turned it onto something I will be happy to show on my desk now. I seriously, did have the old chocolate container on my desk.

1. Firstly, cover your container with Gesso – I find this important as it helps adhere to a once shiny surface.

2. Once dry, measure the width of container and cut paper to size. Wrap paper around the tin, so that the paper slightly overlaps. Mark lightly with a pencil, and cut on pencil line. Apply a light brush of distress ink over all paper edges.

3. Apply a strong adhesive tape to wrong side of paper – with tin standing upright, place paper edge onto work surface and bring closer to container. Balancing both on a work surface will remove the possibility of wrong placement. Wrap around container, and press to adhere.

4. Using alphabet, write a title for your container, using photograph as an example.

5. Decorate the container with various elements, tags, buttons, ribbon, string, more tiny alpha’s, etc.

6. Optional: Apply ribbon to inside rim of container, as pictured. Adding ribbon will aid in protecting any items against the ‘tin’ edge, and also eliminates a lot of the ‘clanging’ when pulling things in and out.

Group several containers, of various size together for a wonderful storage solution for your work area!
