Welcome back, My Creative Scrapbook friends! It’s Jinny here today to showcase a new project inspired by the January Creative Kit. This month’s kit is bursting with the winter goodness of Echo Park’s new Winter Fun collection and Crate Paper’s old Snowflake collection. Their combination, as shown in my tutorial today, makes for such beautiful, soft, winter projects all season long.
I was inspired to turn my entire page into a window frame by these photos of my daughter, taken over fifteen years ago now (We don’t get much snow in my current neck of the woods.), watching city workers fix a power line downed by a winter storm out my bedroom window. I simply penciled off a 1-½” frame around the outside edges of my 12”x12” Whisper White cardstock base page, connecting to a 1” muntin, and simply cutting out the penciled squares with my paper trimmer. I then backed each opening with transparency film, so you’ll have to forgive the bit of glare in my photos. It works awesome but makes my projects super hard to photograph.
I then set the scene outside that window, over a pretty, pink, snowflake print, with chipboard and sticker snowflakes; a sweet, little, chippy bird…
snowman, deer, and hand-cut tree, before spooning on lots of mixed white glitter, floral sequins, and silver body glitter from my stash.
Then, before backing my prepped window with lots of foam tape to tuck in all that shimmer and shine, I machine-stitched white-threaded, straight stitches around its cut edges and did the same for all the winter prints backing my photos, which were matted with white cardstock. A tag, laced with white string, tied in a bow, was tucked under my top photo, which was further embellished with that “let’s snuggle up and watch it snow” die-cut phrase…
and grounded with a trio of sticker, popped up with foam tape, and paper die-cut phrases.
A festive mug and pair of snowflake mittens, sitting on the window sill, complete the look.
Here are a few more projects that I created using the January Creative Kit. I’d love for y’all to stop by my instagram @loftydesignsbyjinny for a closer look!
