Our talented design team member, Melissa Minor, kicked off the inspiration this month with a stunning Christmas layout, perfectly showcasing the festive and versatile papers in our December Main Kit.
Grid Design with Pocket Card Flair
Melissa has used a popular grid design to organize the page, reminiscent of a pocket page, but applied directly to a 12x12 layout. This allows her to feature a variety of patterned papers in a structured and eye-catching way.
Custom Cards: She cut down the beautiful patterned papers (featuring poinsettias, greenery, and simple polka dots) into rounded, pocket-card-like shapes. The mix of traditional holiday prints and subtle neutral backgrounds (the kraft-colored polka dots) creates wonderful contrast.
Added Texture: Notice the detail on the solid green shapes! Melissa has added a stitched border in white or cream thread, giving those "cards" an incredible handmade texture and definition that really makes them pop off the white background.
Focal Point and Layering
The main photo and central embellishments are the heart of the page, drawing the eye instantly to the cozy couple portrait.
Photo Framing: The lovely nighttime photo is layered over coordinating neutral papers, giving it a solid base.
Dimensional Embellishments: The stars of the show are the die-cut Christmas trees! Layering a larger dark green patterned tree with a smaller, pink polka-dotted tree adds depth and whimsy.
Festive Phrases: Below the photo, the title "MERRY Christmas" and the sub-title "tis the season" are perfectly placed to document the holiday memory.
Shine & Splatter: The touch of gold is pure magic! Melissa added gold paint splatters across the top and side of the focal cluster, which perfectly ties in with the warm tone of the photo's twinkle lights and the rich holiday colors. The poinsettia die-cuts nestled in the corner also enhance the festive feel.
This layout is a fantastic example of how to use the variety of papers in the MCS December Main Kit to create a structured, yet highly embellished, holiday memory page!
