The crisp air, the changing leaves, and those precious moments with family are what make fall so special. I love translating those warm, cozy feelings into my scrapbook layouts! This project, created for My Creative Scrapbook using the fantastic October Limited Edition Kit, captures a perfect autumn day.
Layering the Foundation: Mixed Media Fun
I wanted the background to evoke the vibrant, watercolor look of fallen leaves. To achieve this, I played with mixed media and layering, which is one of my favorite techniques.
Color Wash: I started with a light application of warm-toned Lindy's Magicals mixed with water on a white cardstock. I let the colors bleed and blend, focusing on oranges, pinks, and yellows to create a subtle glow.
Adding Texture: While the base was drying, I used a grid-patterned stencil and a bit of texture paste to add some dimension. Once dry, I lightly misted a few spots with color over the texture paste to make it pop and feel integrated with the background wash.
Embellishments that Sing of the Season
The key to a rich, dimensional layout is thoughtful layering of embellishments. This kit had the perfect pieces to celebrate the season!
The Title: The large, bold "FALL" die-cut immediately anchors the bottom right of the page. I layered a small "COZY" sentiment strip underneath for added meaning.
Leaves and Florals: I die-cut leaves from white cardstock and colored them with Lindy's Magicals, and drew veins on the leaves with a black journaling pen. I tucked these under and around the photos and the title. The cluster of paper flowers adds softness and a natural touch, balancing the boldness of the title.
Sentiments and Details: I used little phrase stickers like "FILLED WITH THANKS" and "THIS IS HAPPINESS" to further tell the story. Don't forget the fun accents—a cute scarecrow element and the fantastic directional sign that reads "OVER THE RIVER THRU THE WOODS" add character and whimsy near the photo block.
The Photo Block and Finishing Touches
The photos of the little one enjoying the leaves are the heart of the page, and I kept the matting simple to keep the focus on them.
Photo Matting: I mounted the three pictures on layers of dark brown and navy patterned paper from the kit. The dark mats help the bright colors of the photos (especially that adorable red jacket!) stand out against the busy background.
Strips and Border: Above and below the photos, a classic plaid strip anchors the whole block. I added a whimsical, punched scalloped border along the bottom edge of the photo block for a handcrafted feel.
Ribbon/Trim: A piece of beautiful blue/navy net-like ribbon or trim was placed beneath the photos, adding a contrasting texture and color that grounds the central focus area.
This layout is a true celebration of fall and the joy of simple moments. I hope it inspires you to grab your October LE Kit and start crafting your own autumn memories!
Happy Scrapping! — Michele
