Let's Explore the Creative Kit with Jinny!

Welcome back, My Creative Scrapbook friends!  It’s Jinny here today to showcase a new project inspired by the September Creative Kit.  This month’s kit highlights Simple Stories’ Happy Travels Collection.  It’s been a long time since I’ve scrapped pictures of my family’s travels, so I had a lot of fun reminiscing while creating this month.  This month’s kit also comes with a print from Vicki Boutin’s Fernwood Collection; a gorgeous, star stencil, which is sure to get used again and again for years to come; playful, color-coordinating sequins; and a “PACK YOUR BAGS” die cut, which I’ve chosen to highlight in today’s tutorial.  Enjoy!

I started this page by adding a large puddle of hand-mixed, rose watercolor to the left half of my 12x12 watercolor paper, base page.  For the right half, I cut the colorful rays out of the Round Trip print; distressed their edges; adhered them in a closer, haphazard version of the original design; and anchored a few of them with black-threaded, zig-zag, machine stitching.  Everything was then splattered with that same hand-mixed shade of watercolor described above, as well as green and yellow watercolors and Pure Black and Titanium White, acrylic paints.  My photos themselves were matted with white cardstock and adhered, stacked, in the center of the page, between the two described elements above.

I then backed the “PACK YOUR BAG” title’s die-cut lettering with black cardstock and the suitcase with bits from the Relax and Enjoy and 4x6 Elements prints.  The decor bits were added from pieces of stickers and die cuts.

The die cut itself was then topped with a “LIFE IS A COLLECTION OF MOMENTS” and “VACAY ALL DAY”cardstock and chipboard stickers.

A tag, laced with white string tied in a bow, was tucked under its top edge.  The paper airplane element, which was popped up with foam tape, was my inspiration for the string’s tails.

A camera die cut was popped up with foam tape and adhered hanging from the top, right corner of my top photo…

and a “VACATION MODE:” prompt, filled in with a bit of hand-written journaling and a “JUST GO!” cardstock sticker and topped with an “ADVENTURE FEEDS MY SOUL” cardstock sticker, anchors its bottom right.

A collection of die-cut and hand-cut, from the Travel Buddies print, suitcases and bags, all popped up with layers of foam tape, completes the look.

And just in case you missed them, here are a few more projects that I created using the September Creative Kit.  I’d love for you to stop by my instagram @loftydesignsbyjinny for a closer look!
