Sailing Knots by Maja!

Hello everyone :-)

When I make projects with a marine theme, I like to include real sailing knots, as they make such nice accents :-) One of the simplest knots is the flat knot which you can tie using just one piece of string.

1/2. Make a loop and tie as if you were lacing your shoes:

3/4. Do not pull the knot tight, just tie another knot just above:

5. Tight the two knots a bit tighter and cut the lower loop:

6. Now you have a nice flat knot to use in your projects :-) It looks best with thicker, cotton white string, but this coarse linen string is also nice:
