Mixed Media Chipboard Piece With Jackie!

I am up on the My Creative Scrapbook blog today with a tutorial for altering the Blue Fern Studios chipboard corner included in this month's Limited Edition kit. Chipboard is one of my favorite embellishments because it is so very versatile and can be altered in so many ways, from being left naked to treated with mists, paints, embossing powders and any imaginable combination of media. With this month's chipboard piece I've opted to be a little more fancy.

As you can see, there are many colors and textures on this piece, which help it to be a focal point on the finished layout.

To start, I painted a couple sections (the checkered bit and the scalloped bit) with embossing ink and a paintbrush, which allows for more precise application than using the dabber.

I then heat embossed it with my first embossing powder, Aged Ivory from Stampendous.

Next, I repeated the process with the swirl, arrow, fletched area above the scallop and squiggle, and heat embossed it with Aged Black embossing powder.

As you can see from the photo above, even where the two heat embossed areas meet there is not significant bleeding of colors.

Next, I painted a couple of the blooms with the embossing ink, and heat embossed then with some Lindy's Stamp Gang embossing powder.

For the leaves, I heat embossed with Antiquities green embossing powder from Ranger.

For the remaining blooms, I first embossed then with Weathered White embossing powder from ranger, then gently dabbed on some embossing ink in the centre using the paintbrush and heat embossed on top of it with Red Cinnabar embossing powder from the Ranger Antiquities line.

I wanted a bit more of a textured effect on the bird, and achieved it using Distress Embossing Powder in Vintage Photo.

To help the heart stand out, I applied Prima Glass Beads.

And here it is in place on the finished layout.

Thank you for stopping by today! Be sure to check out the My Creative Scrapbook blog for inspiration and tutorials throughout the month, and if you haven't yet checked out the February kits, be sure to visit the store.
