Hand Dyed Paper Doilies Tutorial by Tracy McLennon

Design Team member Tracy McLennon is up today with step by step instructions for hand dying paper doilies!

--------------------

Doilies have been all the rage in the paper crafting world for a little while now. I like to find them in all shapes, sizes and colours if I can. But have you ever wanted a doily that was the perfect colour for your layout or card?

Well...here is the tutorial for you.

I started with these 4" paper doilies that I picked up at my local Dollar Store. You'll want to separate them all before starting.

Step 1- I picked out 2 bowls that the doilies would be able to lay flat in at the bottom. I put in about and inch or so of warm water. I then added my liquid dye from Rit (Fuchsia and Kelly Green). I put in between 2 and 3tbsp. It all depends on how dark you would like the colour.

Oh, and don't forget your rubber gloves!

Step 2- Then submerge the doilies one at a time so that you don't end up with dry parts sticking to one another. I put in up to 6 doilies at a time. I left them in the liquid for about a minute, perhaps a little longer. But again, it all depends on how dark you would like them to turn out.

Step 3- Take the doilies out of the liquid and let excess liquid drip off before laying them out to dry on a flat surface. Let them dry completely.

Step 4- Your doilies may or may not dry completely flat. If this is the case, and you really want them to be perfectly flat, you can always iron them in between a couple of pieces of paper towel.

This is the layout that I created using October's Main Kit that I dip dyed some doilies for to coordinate.

Enjoy your perfectly coordinating paper doilies! Thank you so much for stopping by!
