Welcome back, My Creative Scrapbook friends! It’s Jinny here today to showcase a new project inspired by the July Creative Kit. This month’s kit is a happy collection of summertime and includes Echo Park’s Have a Great Summer papers and stickers and Here Comes the Sun chipboard. It also contains a large, super-colorful sheet of Shimelle stickers with gold accents; wave stencil; 49th and Market Euphoria print; and an Echo Park Endless Summer 6x6 Paper Pad. I pulled a few prints from the latter into a couple of my designs this month, but the Have a Great Summer prints dominate today’s tutorial. So, let’s just get right to it. Shall we?
I started this layout with a large, yellow, watercolor splotch near the center of the 12x12 watercolor paper, base page. Once that was dry, I used a circle template to add red, orange, green, and blue watercolor circles, scattered throughout my design. Once everything was dry once again, I splattered those same shades of watercolor over their corresponding circle color. This time, I used a heat gun to blast everything dry; mainly, because I was getting impatient with the process, but also, because I wanted to make sure the marker frames, that I then made around my watercolor circles, wouldn’t bleed into them. Finally, I splattered everything with Pure Black and Titanium White, acrylic paints and waited patiently for everything to dry, once again. Note: I find that watercolor paints dry super well with a heat gun, but acrylic paints tend to bubble and look blotchy. It’s better to wait them out. 2nd Note: If you find your background paper getting warped from the heat, just flip it over and finish drying from the backside. It will straighten itself out like magic.
That set the stage for my paper and sticker strips, some of which were anchored with various, black-threaded, machine stitches. Other strips were hand-cut or punched with different edges to bring added textures and create tiny scenes within the overall design itself. My photos, which were matted with white cardstock, were then adhered surrounding my hand-written journaling bit, which was hand-cut from one of those prints mentioned previously and anchored, as the remainder of the prints were, with black-threaded, straight, machine stitching.
It was then grounded with a “happy DAY” cut-apart, which was tucked into one of the paper strips mentioned above and which I’m calling my title…
and topped with sticker clouds and kites, some of which were popped up with foam tape for dimension, to coordinate with the other elements in its setting.
My first photo was backed with a floral print, as well as a little snippet of cheesecloth, from my stash, for more texture.
Moving clockwise, my largest photo was tucked into the punched edge of one of those paper strips mentioned earlier. It was also embellished with a “NOW” sticker tab…
“lazy days” chipboard phrase; and trio of butterflies, with hand-penned trails, fussy-cut from one of the Have a Great Summer prints. These same, fussy-cut butterflies made several appearances throughout all four of my designs this month.
My third photo was backed with a butterfly print and topped with a “HAVING FUN AT THE PARK” puffy sticker…
as well as my smallest and last photo, which was wrapped with a length of white string, tied in a bow, and popped up, with foam tape, over the same journaling square we began with.
