Creating with Claire using the July Main kit from MyCreativeScrapbook.com

Claire Hawkins: July 2023 Main Kit

You are Loved.

Hi there,

It’s Claire here, and today I’m sharing a mixed media layout using the beautiful July 2023 Main Kits.

I started with a piece of plain white cardstock and applied a thin coat of gesso to prime my paper for wet mediums. Once dry, I added watercolour paints in different shades of blue and green, swiping the ink across the page with a brayer – I really love this effect, and it helps me achieve a messy mixed media look – without getting too messy myself!

Once it was dry, I added some splatters using white acrylic paint and gold ink to bring a bit of sparkle and to echo those gorgeous gold accents included in this month’s kit.

To give the page a light and airy feel, I backed my photos in vellum, offsetting them one against the other and raising on foam to stand proud of my cardstock. Underneath the bottom photograph, I added a tag in yellow which almost acts as a shelf for my photographs to rest on.

I laid my photos centrally against the mixed media and then began to build my floral clusters, using the blue and yellow flowers from the ephemera pack.

To create extra texture and dimension, I rolled the edges of the flowers and pinched the leaves, raising some on foam and sticking some flat.

Around each cluster, I stamped two hearts using a stamp from the stamp set included in the kit. Unfortunately, Once got covered up by some extra leaves I added on top, but the others can still clearly be seen.

I complemented this with some puffy heart stickers in coordinating colours.

Next, I fussy cut some small butterflies adding them to the floral clusters. For my title, I used another puffy sticker, adding it to the top and bottom of each photo respectively. It’s super cute and looks like small torn buts of note paper.

As a final touch, I added some gold chord to my tag and scattered some sequins around the page.

I hope you like the final result – it was certainly a relaxing page to create, and I hope it has inspired you to delve straight into these beautiful kits.

See you next month!

Claire xx
