Claire Hawkins: May 2023 Main Kit
Let’s add to our Layouts!
Hi everyone,
Claire with you today, and this month I am
sharing a 12x12 layout made with the May Main Kit.
For this layout, I’m pulling together all
the beautiful colours in the patterned papers and featuring the stamps that are
included in the kit.
If you’ve seen my scrappy style before, you’ll know I absolutely loves stripes on a layout, so I couldn’t wait to cut apart the stripey paper to add machine stitching and raise on foam.
Once the stripes were in place, I mounted
my photo using two pf the patterned papers, and layered a tag from the ephemera
pack behind it. I added string and a gold eyelet from my stash as I planned to
accent this layout with additional gold elements.
To embellish the page, I wanted to create a
cascade of floral pieces down the side, but wanted to create a tone on tone
effect so I reached for the stamp set.
I stamped the flowers multiple times in embossing ink, adding white embossing powder and heat setting.
Using some watercolour paints, I mixed some colours to match the patterned paper stripes and pained the flowers. Once dry, I fussy cut them and curled the edges to create some extra dimension.
To echo the gold foiling in the collection,
I embossed some extra flowers and leaves in gold on vellum. This was quite
tricky and if you’re going to try that technique, you’ll need heavyweight
vellum otherwise the embossing will peel off.
Once all floral elements were in place, I
added smaller pieces from the embellishment pack and chipboard sheet.
I also fussy cut some butterflies and
layered them on top of some gold thread clusters.
To create my title, I stuck with the tone
on tone approach, using words and phrases from the chipboard sheet, sticker sheet,
and embellishment pack.
To finish the layout, I added coordinating Nuvo
Drops to the centers of my stamped flowers.
I hope this layout has inspired you to try
stamping on your layouts – it’s the perfect option to bring your own style to a
collection.
See
you next month with more paper projects.
Have a great month!
Claire
