5 Ways to Alter Premade Flowers by Jodi Baune

Hello! My Creative Scrapbook design team member Jodi Baune is sharing some awesome flower-altering tips today featuring our September Creative kit!

Here's Jodi:

Hello! I want to share with you 5 ways to alter the pre-made flowers found in the September Album Kit from My Creative Scrapbook!

I used my flowers on this layout of my precious niece and nephew welcoming their cousin home!

These are the flowers before I altered them...beautiful as is, but I like to see what I can do to enhance them!

1. I dry brushed the petals with gesso for lighter, distressed flower.

2. Using black ink and a gorgeous, flourish stamp from Prima (found in an earlier kit from My Creative Scrapbook) I stamped a pattern unto the flowers.

Didn't they turn out beautiful?!

3. Using my scissors, I sliced each petal three or four times stopping near the end of the petal.

Staggering the petals, I layered two flowers together and scrunched them with my fingertips.

4. I lightly misted the ends of the petals with water. While the petals were still wet, I twisted the ends of the petals.

Once dry, I added a dab of liquid glue in the center and added micro beads from my stash.

5. I spritzed the flowers with mist....I used Turquoise Smooch.

Once the flower were dry, I formed the ends of the petals with my stylis.

Here they are after the stylis tool.

Tie a knot in the end of the yellow ribbon.

Staggering the petals, I glued two large flowers, and a small flower together. I glued the knot on for the flower center.

Here she is at another angle!

I would to see how you use your flowers! Share you link here and I'll be sure to stop and leave you some love!

Thanks for taking time to stop by!!

How to Create a Journaling Envelope by Missy Whidden

We have a great journaling technique to share today from My Creative Scrapbook design team member Missy Whidden featuring our September Main kit!

Here's Missy:

I hardly ever do hidden journaling on my pages.  I usually write or type a few sentences on my page where it is visible.  I wanted to try something different to hide my notes this time, so I decided to create a little envelope to hide a journaling tag.  Here’s how I made it:

How to Make Paper Feathers by Liz Chidester

Hello! Today My Creative Scrapbook design team member Liz Chidester is sharing how she made her paper feathers on her layout featuring our September Main kit!

Here's Liz:

Feathers are really HOT right now but also really expensive. I'm going to show you a few tips on how to make your own realistic-looking feathers from the yellow ombre paper in the Main kit.

Hand draw a few leaf shapes on the yellow ombre paper with the top towards the lightest shade of the paper. (Mine are about 2 1/2 inches tall) Your drawing doesn't have to be perfect.

Cut out your shapes. Ink the bottom edges brown.

Fold your shapes in half. Give your center fold a nice inking too.

With your sharpest, fine pointed scissors cut several times in a slight downward position all the way up the edge. The finer, the better.  When you've got all of the feathers cut, go back and slightly cut a few whisps off of the ends for a realistic look because, lets face it, feathers aren't perfect.

There you have it!

How to Stretch Your Embellishments by Lisa Swift

Hello! My Creative Scrapbook design team member Lisa Swift is sharing some tips today featuring our September Creative kit!

Here's Lisa:

Hi everyone! It's Lisa here today to show you how to make your kit embellishments go further. I have a bunch of ideas to share with you.

1. Cut elements from a piece of patterned paper. Look at all of the wonderful arrows and word bubbles on Echo Park's Here & Now Chalkboard Quotes paper! Let's cut some out and use them on a layout, shall we?

I used three word bubbles on this layout (highlighted by black dotted boxes) and still have plenty (plus the woodgrain side of the paper) left to use on other projects.

2. Combine diecuts to create an embellishment cluster or scene (highlighted by black dotted box). I layered two frames (only using a portion of the yellow one so I have the rest to use another time) and added in the hot air balloon, "best friends" diecut, some flowers, a couple of arrows and a heart. Letting some of the elements extend beyond the frame visually connects this cluster with other areas of the page.

Here's a closer look at the cluster:

3. Cut up your stickers. The half circle stickers you see on this page (highlighted by black dotted circles) were originally full circles. I cut them in half so I could accent multiple pockets on the Project Life page protector. Did you also notice that I used idea #2 for the top right pocket? A frame, combined with arrows and stickers creates another fun cluster.

I hope I've inspired you to look at your kit embellishments in a new way. Layer them up. Cut them apart. Stretch your embellishments.
