To view or purchase our kits, click here.
For our sketch challenge (deadline: July 14), click here.

My Creative Scrapbook Design Team member Yuko Tanaka designed with our July Limited Edition kit featuring the "Plum Seed" collection by Webster's Pages.

Today she's sharing how she created her own textured embellishment to use on one of her layouts.

Here's Yuko:

step1  Punch a circle and paint it with modeling paste.

step2  Add texture with a toothbrush.

step3  Apply colors to a scrap piece of cardstock with watercolor pencils.

step4.  I used a water brush to pick up the colors and add them to the circle.

step5  I used it in this place on my LO.

Creating a Matching Background to Team with Paper by Sandie Edwards

To view or purchase our kits, click here.
For our sketch challenge (deadline: July 14), click here.

Today My Creative Scrapbook Design Team member Sandie Edwards is sharing an awesome background technique!  Sandie designed with our July Limited Edition kit featuring the "Plum Seed" collection by Webster's Pages.

Here's Sandie:

"Sometimes it is nice just to do something a little different, or perhaps you do not have enough paper that is coordinating to complete a layout. Here is a little trick to help make paper work for you, and can be completed using any stamp you may have in your collection - clocks, patterns, flowers - just pick something that seems to team in well with your papers! For the July, Limited Edition Kit, I opted to pick the grid pattern from the paper I was working with.

1. Cut frame carefully from 12 X 12 paper, ink edges using Victorian Velvet Distress Ink, and set middle piece aside for now.

2. Place cut frame piece, onto a 12 X 12 Boxboard piece, and draw a pencil line around the inside of the frame as shown in Photograph 2, this pencil line gives a guide for the following step.

3. Using Photograph 3 as a guide, paint with Gesso a broad 3 inch area around where the frame will sit - making sure you go over the pencil line so it is totally covered. Allow to dry fully.

4. Apply distress ink to a clear stamp, no need to use a stamping block, as you want a rough pattern and for it not to be perfect, and stamp around the whole area which as been painted as in Photograph 4.

5. Adhere the frame to the boxboard base, using magic mount to the outer edge and tape to the inside. This gives a little dimension to your layout when completed.

6. Cut a 7.5 inch square from coordinating paper, or use the reverse side of middle piece of frame, and ink edges using distress ink. Adhere centrally to layout base using magic mount on outside edges, and tape to the inside - again, this forms a nice dimension."

How to Add Hand Stitching to Your Project by Lisa Swift

To view or purchase our kits, click here.
For our sketch challenge (deadline: July 14), click here.

We're kicking off our July tutorials today with a stitching technique from My Creative Scrapbook Design Team member Lisa Swift.  Lisa designed with our July Creative kit featuring the "Poppy" collection by Little Yellow Bicycle.

Here's Lisa:

"Do you ever feel as if a project needs just a little finishing touch? Hand stitching, with embroidery floss, adds texture and detail without adding bulk. There are all types of stitches, but a basic straight stitch is sometimes all you need.

On this layout I used straight stitching to add interest to the flowers already printed on the background paper. Embroidery floss has a total of six strands. You'll get a thicker, bolder look the more strands you use. For this layout, I used three.

Use a sewing needle to poke holes around the flower design. Bring the needle up, from the bottom of the paper, through hole "A". Bring the needle down through the next adjacent opening, hole "B". Now, bring the needle up through the next hole, hole "C", and back down again through hole "B".

Continue on until you come back to hole "A".

You can use complimentary embroidery floss like I did, or a color that brings in some contrast. There are no rules, just have fun!"
