We are happy to share a tutorial today from My Creative Scrapbook Guest Designer Becky Williams. Read on to see how she turned the pink trim in our May Main kit into a beautiful flower.

Here's Becky:

"For my "How I Did That" this month I have a quick and easy handmade flower to share with you using some supplies from the May Main Kit.

Supplies:
strong liquid adhesive
pink trim from Main Kit
Circle punch (I used 1 1/4 inch)
small piece of cardstock for circle
Basic Grey bottle caps from Main Kit
stapler or needle and thread

1. Gather supplies

2. punch circle from cardstock

3. cut 6 inches of pink trim from Main Kit and gather into a circle as shown. Staple or stitch the circle closed.

4. Add strong liquid adhesive to punched cardstock circle. I used Ranger Glossy Accents. You could also use hot glue or any other strong liquid adhesive. Add trim circle to the cardstock.

5. Choose one of the Basic Grey bottle cap embellishments from the Main kit and add to center of trim flower. Push down to ensure it stays securely.

6. Allow to sit until completely dry.

7. Once dry add handmade flower embellishment to your project as seen here."

Stepped Out Layering by Guest Designer Lisa Swift

To view our kits, click here.

------------------------------

My Creative Scrapbook Guest Designer Lisa Swift is sharing a look into her design process featuring our May Main kit.

Here's Lisa:

"Lisa here today to share a bit about my layering process with you. Layering is a wonderful way to add interest and depth to your layouts and other paper projects. Think of it as being similar to using building blocks or putting puzzle pieces together.

This is what my layout looked like with just the "base" elements adhered. Did you notice how the plaid paper acts as the foundation upon which I layered the other pieces? To add even more depth, I used 3D foam squares to make the butterflies "pop" off the page.

The second step in the layering process means it's time to add a matted photo and a pocket created from a piece of patterned paper. The pocket is machine stitched to the page to add a bit of texture and to make it sturdy since it is going to hold a journaling tag.

To finish the page off I embellished the photo and the pocket, again layering different pieces. Don't be afraid to use small parts of embellishments. For example, I cut the "2" off the end of the grey ticket to use on the pocket. Now I have the remainder of the ticket to use on another project.

Here's a look at the finished page. As you can see, I added in a few embellishments and moved others around until I was pleased with the arrangement. The area underneath the photo turned out to be the perfect spot for my title."

How to Make a Lacey Button by Guest Designer Andrea Ewen

Did you see our exciting announcement yesterday? In case you didn't, you can find it by scrolling down to yesterday's blog post or by clicking here. You won't want to miss it!

Continuing with the excitement here at My Creative Scrapbook, we have a guest designer to introduce to you today! Please help us to give a warm welcome to Andrea Ewen:

Hello crafty friends! My name is Andrea Ewen and I've been married to my high school sweet heart for almost 18 years (together for 27!). We have two children together, a 15 year old son and a 13 year old daughter. I live in New Jersey near the beautiful shore and work full time in a small pharmacy that is 2 blocks from the ocean. Crafting has always been a passion of mine...in high school I funded my extra curricular activities by sewing hair 'scrunchies' (remember those?) and making Christmas wreaths out of pinecones. One fateful day in 2002 I went to a Stampin' Up! party and about blew my life savings on paper crafting supplies. I was so hooked! I have to say though, card making initially looked a lot easier than it was...for me. I made many 'interesting' cards in the following years but seemed to have found my stride 8 years later when I started my blog, EwenStyle. Maybe starting my blog gave me more confidence, or maybe more accountability, not sure...but either way I have learned immense lessons from this experience. For example, I've learned that there are blue-ish browns and red-ish browns. I've learned that more is not always better. I've learned that I REALLY love flowers and anything girly. And most importantly, I've learned that I still really have a lot to learn!  I try to concentrate on absorbing as much as I can and experimenting as much as possible. I adore "paper manipulating" whether it be in the form of die cuts, border punches or flower making. I love to use lots of vintage and feminine items like ribbons, lace, pearls and flowers. My style has been evolving over the years, but I've seemed to have settled into the comfy chair of Vintage/Shabby Chic/Antique designs. I currently design for Verve Stamps, Zva Creative, Maja Design Vintage Papers, Paper Sweeties Stamps and 3 challenge blogs...the Ribbon Carousel, CASE Study and Vintage Card Cafe challenge.

Andrea designed with our May Limited Edition kit, and today she's sharing a tutorial on how to make a lacey button!

Here's Andrea:

"You'll need an 8" strip of the lace, a chipboard button and a needle and thread:

Start on one end of the flat side of the lace with a basting stitch along the whole length of the bottom:

When you get to the end, gently pull the thread taut:

Attach both ends of the lace with a stitch:

Now using the same basting stitch, follow the end up to the outside perimeter to secure the two ends together:

Tie off the end with a knot and snip off the thread:

The end result of the outside flower...the back of the button is a sticker, but to make it look 'authentically' sewn on, we're just going to put a couple of stitches on the button:

The stitch will also help to secure it a bit better, but you only need one or two stitches for the effect:

Voila! Finished product:

On the card:"

I'd like to take a moment to Welcome a brand new DT member to My Creative Scrapbook. Her talent is sure to inspire you each and every month.

Nicole Doiron

My name is Nicole, I am in my very late 30's (I am hanging on to dear life!), I have a very uninspiring office job, and I live in a small coastal town in Atlantic Canada with my soulmate Yves and our feline baby, Sugar.  After having admired their beautiful kits for many months, I am over the moon EXCITED to be a Guest Designer this month for My Creative Scrapbook.

I have always been a very creative person (writing poetry, drawing, painting), but I have to say that ever since I started scrapbooking in 2005, I have seen my creativity soar and reach new levels.  I feel so much enjoyment and satisfaction when scrapbooking that I only wish I could do it all the time.   I cannot say that I have a specific style, only that it is very versatile and adapts itself constantly to my moods and inspirations.  One layout may be fun and colorful, while another may turn out shabby chic and elegant.  I tend to use a LOT of embellishments - the more, the better! - and I love trying out new techniques with inks, gesso, paint, glitter, etc...

I'm fairly new to the virtual world of scrapbooking.   I've just started my own crafty blog (http://www.scrap-utopia.blogspot.ca/) in January of 2011.  I enjoy finding inspiration from all the different blogs and DTs out there, and My Creative Scrapbook has been an important source of inspiration ever since I first discovered it.  I am always in total admiration when I see the beautiful creations the talented DT does with each new kit!

It's also time to introduce a few talented ladies that were part of our GDT this month...

Lisa Swift...

I am a New England transplant now living in upstate New York with my husband, Tom and tween daughter, Alexa. I've been paper crafting since 2001 when I was presented with an empty 12x12 album as a baby gift.

I love mixing and matching bits and pieces to create embellishment clusters on my pages. It's a rare page that doesn't feature some kind of stitching, whether it be by hand or machine. Layering is part of my "signature" style. While scrapbooking is my first love, I also enjoy making cards and the occasional altered project. When I'm not scrapbooking or chauffering my daughter around, I can be found puttering in my garden, reading a book, cooking up a new recipe, or taking photos that will later be committed to paper for all time.

I am a sponsored designer for Little Yellow Bicycle and a regular contributor to various print and online publications.

Please visit my blog, Remember the Good Times at http://lisarukinswift.blogspot.com.

Christin Gronnslet

My name is Christin Grønnslett, who after ten years in Sweden our family moved back to Norway last year. Here the four of us (kids 5 and 3) live in a little community called Røyken (English translation=Smoke.....)

I discovered scrapbooking in 2002 after living a few months in the US, but for years I was more of a shopper/inspiration collector than a scrapper.  I still look for inspiration all over and I can’t scrap without my computer or Iphone around, but now I actually use all that inspiration and try to sit down at my scrap table every day when the kids are asleep, and I try to attend as many crops as possible.  I mostly make layouts and I’m somewhat of a challenge junkie. You won’t find any layouts in my house that are not the result of either a challenge or an assignment.

I love to play with colors, stencils, texture and layers on my layouts. I scrapbook to capture feelings, emotions and the many faces of my kids as they grown up

Lydell Quin...

Hi.  My name is Lydell Quin and I am from Australia.  I am Mum of 3,  Two Sons (10 and 1) and a daughter (8).  I have been scrapbooking for over 10 years.  I started the Color Room with 3 friends about 3 years ago now and even though I do it on my own now its still a labor of love!  I design for Helmar  and am a designer and an Educator for Shimmerz Paints, and I am part of the Team for The Scrap4Help Challenge blog.  I love all these Creative teams.  I would love a few more hours in the day to get through all the things I would like to create!!  I create a wide range of Projects, Layouts and Cards, Canvas’ and Art Journals, Project Life and Off the page.  I do some digital designing and Digital scrapbooking as well…. I have my finger in all the pies!  You can find me at www.lydellquin.blogspot.com  and as Stuff She Makes on Facebook  https://www.facebook.com/StuffSheMakes
Thanks so much for having me My Creative Scrapbook!

Joan Bronson...

Hello, my name is Joan Bronson.  I’ve been married to my high school sweet heart, Matt, for almost 14 years.  We have three very active boys ages 7, 5, and 3.  Besides keeping up with my boys and our home, I travel to employers offices to explain benefits and assist in the enrollment process for employees.  Lastly, I teach classes and make page kits at my local scrapbooking store.
In high school I made my own version of a smash book but my true addiction to scrapbooking began in 1999 when I was invited to my first scrapbooking party.  My scrapbooking style has changed over the years just like my family.  I relive each memory as I scrap the photos.  I also NEED scrapbooking.  With three little boys in the house I love escaping to the scrapbook store to scrap with my girl friends.
