To alter the wooden frame in the kit I used Claudine Hellmuth Paint in white, Yellow pastel and Dab of yellow. I also Used Rub in buff Gold leaf and heat tool. First I painted a coat of white....

Then I painted a coat of yellow kinda thick...

Then I heat set it going close enough so it would bubble. I Painted three coats and heat set each coat to get this..

Then I used the dab of yellow in spots and heat set that as well. Then rubbed rub and buff and here is the finish look..

Background and Flower Tips with Lou Collins

Good day!  We have more wonderful tips from Design Team member Lou Collins to share with you today.

Here's Lou...

To create a neat, subtle background on your projects, use the mask in the October Limited Edition kit as a stencil for dots with liquid pearls. This results in a neat grid of small dots that adds subtle dimension and interest.

A really simple way of making your fabric flowers go further is by literally pulling them apart!

With the cream Prima flowers in the October Limited Edition kit, I simply pulled the layers of the petals gently apart, peeling the glued centers away, leaving me with two, three, or four flowers to use, depending on how many layers I separated at a time!

The same can be done with the Pink Roses. Hold a few petals, pull them away from the flower centre and you have a smaller rose bud, plus some flat petals to use on your projects.

Creating a 3D Background with Shell Carman

Design Team member Shell Carman created an amazing dimensional background for her layout and is here today to show us how she did it!

Here's Shell...

Hi There! Today I want to show you how I created the 3D background on this page

Close up it looks like this

Using the October Main Kit & a sheet of white cardstock & brown ink & Foam tape/foam dots
1. Take the MME Bluebell Playful mischief paper. Use the grid pattern & cut along the vertical lines
I find it much easier to work row by row on at a time so you don't end up with pieces everywhere.

2. Use your scissors & cut along the printed lines on the first row

Keep cutting the pieces for the first row

3. Place a strip of tape along the top of some cardstock

4. Take the smallest piece to start with. Ink the plain side & stick it down in the top left corner

5. Take the next piece & ink the BLUE PATTERN side this time. Use some foam tape & stick beside the first piece

6. Take the next piece & ink the plain side & stick beside second piece

7. Take the next piece & ink the BLUE PATTERN side & stick beside third piece with some foam tape

Continue to follow this order until the entire row has been stuck down ** Always alternate from plain to pattern side. All pattern pieces should be stuck down with foam tape

8. Cut the next row & continue to use the same technique. ** Make sure you start with the BLUE PATTERN piece for the 2nd row then start with a plain piece for the 3rd row then a BLUE PATTERN piece for the 4th row etc

9. Contine to stick all your pieces until the cardstock is completely covered. Trim any edges as required

Thanks for joining me today
Cheers
Shell

Mixed Media Heart with Delaina Burns

Happy Saturday!  Design Team member Delaina Burns is here to boost our creativity this weekend with a beautiful mixed media heart designed with the October kits.

Here's Delaina...

Instructions:
This heart was created using the Oct Mixed Media Kit and the Oct Album Kit. I added some jute from my stash to add the bow and hanger. Simply thread the jute through the key and the jewel strand and tie a bow. Loop another piece of jute and hand sew to the back of the heart, before you cut the thread sew on the bow attached to accessories. Thread a button from the Album Kit and one of the legs of the bow. Glue 2 roses also from the Album Kit to the top of the heart, sandwiching the bow. I used a red ink on the outside of the heart to distress it a little.

Making Your Own Banners + a Threading Tip with Zoe Nemburt

It's Friday!!! Design Team member Zoe Nemburt created her own banner for one of her main kit layouts this month and is here to show us how she did it!

Here's Zoe...

Everyone loves banners right? Well they are super easy to make yourself too.

Posted Image

Cut or Punch some small circles from paper included within your kit.

Posted Image

Fold and staple the circles along a piece of fibre or twine

Posted Image

Attach to your page using foam squares or glue dots as above. :)

------------------------------------------------------------------

I was finding it tricking to thread the felt baubles onto my natural twine so I used a little tape on the end. I rolled it around and once I had finished just snipped it off.

Enjoy.

Here's Jolaine...

Here's one of my layouts with this month's main kit:

and here's the background:

To achieve this look, I brushed some gesso and splattered with my Glimmer Mist applicator. I also dipped a plastic cup on some paint and used it as a stamp for those orange circles.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

The base for this layout is the beautiful die cut paper found in the LE kit. I loved using it on my layout and to highlight it, I applied liquid dots using my Viva Pearl Pen in the color salmon.
