Mixed Media with Yvette!

Hello, My Creative Scrapbook friends!  Yvette here and I'm so excited to share this beautiful mixed media page with you today. Every once in awhile I like to get messy and challenge myself to create a mixed media background.  Included in this month's main kit is a flower stamp as well as a circle stencil, I decided to mainly use the stamped flowers as well as a few die-cut pieces as my only source of embellishments for my page.

Gather my supplies.....

I started the layout off by creating a watercolor effort on the background, using various shades of blue, orange and yellow. I mixed the Gelatos with a little water onto a piece of plastic packaging and applied it using the 'kissing' technique...(gently kiss the packaging to your cardstock)

I keep building layers of colors, working in a diagonal design until I was happy with the end results.

Here you can see, I also used a small water brush to move the colors around a bit. Which created some movement and interest on my page.

I then stamped the flower image multiple times on some white cardstock, using charcoal ink and fussy cut.

Next, I applied gesso, using a palette knife through the circle stencil.

Once everything was dry, I decided to add a few stamped flowers over the top of the paint using the charcoal ink.

Some machine stitching in black was added of texture and interest.

Once my background was done, I was ready to start embellishing using the fussy cut stamped flowers.

A phrase found on one of the cutout cards was fussy cut to create a title.

A few die-cut vines and flower shapes was add to the layout to finish it off.

I hope you felt inspired today and if you're not a subscriber yet, give it a try. The kits are all so beautiful and you will not regret it!!!!

Thanks for stopping by :) xx

Dry Embossing with Marielle!

Hello everyone, Marielle here today to share a quick tutorial on dry embossing with a stencil.
The February main kit includes this great plastic Confetti stencil from Heidi Swapp.

I loved working with this wonderful kit !

This is my finished card. I love these shades of blues and purples !

Step 1
Place stencil over white cardstock and adhere stencil with tape.

Step 2
Flip the stencil and cardstock over on the cutting plate of your favorite die cutting machine.

Step 3
Using the correct embossing mat and plates for your machine, run through machine to emboss your piece of cardstock.

Step 4
Here's a look at the embossed piece. I love adding texture to my projects !

Step 5
I created a tag for my card using the embossed circles only.

Step 6
I punched out a few of the larger circles and fussy cut the small hearts from the papers in the kit.

The process of finding the perfect placement of embellishment is always a long one for me. I always step back a look at everything and make changes that pleases my eye.

Step 7
I machine stitched the hearts to the circles and added splats of white paint.

Step 8
To finish my card, I adhered a few flowers, sentiment, twine and chipboard foliage.

Thanks for visiting the blog today. I hope you can find a bit of creative time to try this dry embossing technique on your next project.
Happy crafting !
Marielle

BookMarks with Zelda!

Hi everyone, today I’m sharing  some cute bookmarks that I created using the adorable February Creative Kit, Loves Me Collection from Pebbles.

With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, I designed some sweet bookmarks using this wonderful collection I thought these would make cute Valentine cards especially as I like to give my kids books on Valentine's Day.
Using the patterned papers and white cardstock  I cut  2”×7” rectangles and punched the shape of the tag and the hole at the top using a Stampin’ Up Scalloped Tag Topper Punch. If you don’t have a tag punch you could use a corner round punch and a hole punch or simply cut the corners off at an angle.

There was a red dye ink pad and clear chevron stamp included  in the monthly kit which were great to use for the back of the bookmarks. I stamped the white cardstock  using the red ink and chevron stamp, inked all around  the edges and adhered them together.
To embellish the bookmarks, I decided to make some origami hearts to hug them. And because they have a little pocket I was able to use some of the sweet tags and ephemera  tucked in the hearts. Lastly I used some DMC floss to make  tassels.
*To make the hearts cut a 4 ½” square piece of paper.
*Fold it in half and half again and open up.

*Fold the bottom of the paper up to the middle crease, and then quarter turn your paper and fold up the bottom corners to the middle creating a triangular edge.

*Quarter turn and bring the bottom center point to the top and fold, quarter turn again.
*Use your finger to make an opening in the middle and flatten to form a triangle, fold a triangle from the outer edge and a tiny triangle from peak. Repeat on other side.
*Turn over and fold the areas behind the heart.

And there you have your origami heart which can also be used as a bonus bookmark!
