Reverse Canvas Tutorial by Guest Designer Tina Walker

My Creative Scrapbook guest designer Tina Walker is featuring our January Main Kit today with a step by step tutorial for creating a fabulous wall art piece!

--------------------

Hi! Tina Walker here today with a quick and easy way to use your My Creative Scrapbook kits to create handmade Home Decor and wall art!

Follow along for a short tutorial on how to create your own reverse canvas!

1. Flip canvas around so the back side is now the front. Cover the entire surface with gesso.

2. Using a favorite stencil, add texture and interest to the canvas by applying modeling paste (or whipped spackle) to the canvas.

3. Spray stenciled surface with several shades of your favorite Spray Mist.

4. Mute Spray Mist color by painting a thin layer of gesso to surface.

5. Add more depth of color by painting stenciled (and gesso'd) surface with pearlized water color(s) until you achieve the desired color. (to be honest, I didn't care for the bright colors of the Spray Mist, so I painted the surface with Gesso to add the water color paint. Gesso is a wonderful thing! :) )

6. Add colored modeling paste (Dazzelerz by Shimmerz Paints) to outside and inside edge of canvas.

7. Add pretty patterned paper to inside of canvas.

8. Adhere layered stickers to center of patterned paper. Also adhere photo corners to inside section.

Enjoy

We're excited to announce this month's guest designer!

Tina Walker

Hi! I'm Tina Walker and I am so excited to be Guest Designing for My Creative Scrapbook!

Who am I? I dabbled in scrapbooking approximately 15 years ago and would create in bursts of artistic energy, but it wasn’t until 5 years ago when I really started to be ‘obsessed’ with Scrapbooking and all things creative. I have been blessed to have been published in Somerset Memories, Artful Blogging, Scrapbook Trends, and Creating Keepsakes.

I am a working mom, working outside the home.  My children are grown, so much of my inspiration comes from my two French bulldogs, Moose & Flikka.  They have quite the reputation in the scrapbook world.  You can see more of my Scrapbook, Home Décor, and Mixed media projects on my blog, A Dog’s Life.

Tina has been a guest with us before, and we were thrilled when she agreed to join us again this month. Be sure to check out her beautiful work in our design team gallery!  She has prepared a wonderful tutorial to be shared in the coming days, so keep an eye out for it!

-------------------------

We hope you will continue to visit our blog throughout the month to see all of the wonderful tips, techniques, and tutorials that our designers have prepared just for you!

Don't forget about our sketch challenge... we have a terrific sketch and a fabulous prize package to give away. Visit our sketch blog for all of the details!

Step by Step Layout Tutorial by Angel Rodrigue

Angel Rodrigue is wrapping up 2014 for us with a step by step tutorial featuring our December Limited Edition Kit!

Here's Angel:

For this layout I wanted to use the shaped paper but wanted to back it with some pattern paper. Like always I trimmed the pattern paper so I can back it on white cardstock.

Next I added my photo and cut the holly from another pattern paper sheet to tuck in behind my photo.

Then I added some holly on top with pop dots..I like the full look.

At the lower left hand corner I add two blooms from the kit and the holly fern from the chipboard.

I could not stop there as I wanted to add a bow so I tucked it under the bloom. I also added the Sticker from the sticker sheet that said Be Merry..

To finish my title I added some more chipboard ...

Then I tucked a doily from my stash to the left side of the photo.

I also added the pinecone resin at the lower right and colored it in with copic markers.

Anatomy of a Layout by Becky Litz

Becky Litz is featuring our December Creative Kit today with a look at the design process for one of her layouts!

--------------------

Hi Friends!

Becky here with you today to show you how I put together my Christmas Cuties layout!

I love making grid style layouts! You are able to add more than one photo as well as a bunch of clusters fun embellishments.

I decided on 3 inch squares so that there would be a nice balance of photos, elements and the background behind. I trimmed the photos slightly so that I could add a white mat and make them stand out.

So lets start with the top of the layout. I used a diecut bow to make this square into a gift! Afterwards I popped up the small green gift diecut and layered it on top to make it look like a pile of gifts.

When I placed the Christmas tree in the top left square it looked a little to lonely to me, so I added the '25'. The tree has very thin pop dots under it and the '25' has thicker ones so that they are at different heights and create depth.

The title of my layout was pretty easy to come up with...how cute are those kiddos!?!? I wanted a word that would fit nicely in the square and the word 'cuties' worked perfectly with the Thickers. A few holly stickers finished it off.

In the bottom left corner I used pop dots once again behind the wreath sticker (I love for things to pop off the page). I used a piece of ribbon from the kit to make a tiny bow and added it to the bottom of the wreath.

The patterned paper in the middle square was just so cute I didn't want to cover any of it up so I left it as it is.

Finally I took the three ornament die cuts and lined them up along the top of the bottom right square. They looked a bit strange just hanging in space there so I added the 'JOY' stickers and it helped.

Well that's it for me today. I hope you enjoyed seeing how I put my layout together. There are SO MANY awesome stickers and die cuts in this kit I'm sure you could make a layout in the same style as me and use totally different embellies! I'd love to see it! Please make sure you share on our FB page.

Thanks for stopping by today
~Becky

Layout Design Process by Lynn Shaffer

Lynn Shaffer is featuring our December Main Kit today with a look into her design process!

--------------------

Hello Friends,
Today I am sharing how I built my Joy layout. I will focus on the back details.

I have to admit I am a paper hoarder! I love paper so I try to use it to the max. Using a piece of kraft cardstock I create a 10x10 square in the middle of my cardstock. I then cut out the center piece out. The 10x10 square will be used to matt my picture and use the remaining for background layers. The outside square will be later painted gold to change things up. I cut my pattern paper down to 11x11 and misted the edges with water. Once my paper is a little damp I crinkle the edges.

While my edges dry I then apply a little modeling medium and some fun sparkles. Let dry. I then cut stars out from various left overs of pattern paper from the kit. I painted the edges gold. I randomly dabbled gold paint around the edges of where my gel medium was.

Using texture paste added a few white stars.
Then added the various layers and voila we are done!

Here are a few more of my layouts
