Layout Design Process with Lynn Shaffer

Lynn Shaffer is up today with some looks into her design process featuring our September Creative Kit!

--------------------

Hello,

Hope you are having a fabulous day.
Today I am demonstrating my process in building a page.

Trim 11 ¾  inch off each side of pattern paper.  Matt down 11 ¾ x 11 ¾ pattern paper to black cardstock.

I then matted my sticker letters to black cardstock to make it pop.

Free hand I cut various shapes and inked all the edges.

I applied Glossy accents in layers and let dry.

I then began layering all the elements and adding brads to my page.

The trick to layering is to tuck the shapes behind larger elements.

Also popping up stickers will help give dimension to your layout.

-----------------------------------

For my second layout I changed the look of my page with Gelato's.

I put a layer of gesso on my base page

inked the edges of my misc pieces.

To add dimension I matt my photo's and pop them with 3D adhesive.

Now that my base page is dry I apply Gelatos.

I then placed my various cut pieces on my layout.

Tracing out my sticker words help make titles pop.

Thank you for joining me.

How to Create a Quilt Effect with Paper Scraps by Becky Litz

Becky Litz is up today with a tutorial featuring our September Creative Kit!

--------------------

Hello Friends!

Today I would like to share with you how I created the quilted heart on my 'Work of Heart' layout.

This month I am using Creative Kit which features the Creative Agenda collection from Echo Park.

I started by using my silhouette to cut out a large heart from my base patterned paper. If you don't have an electronic die cutting machine you could certainly draw a heart freehand and cut it out by hand. I then used embroidery floss and stitched around the entire outside of the heart.

Next I placed the paper with the cut out heart on top of a sheet of white cardstock and traced the heart shape with my pencil

...

I took a bunch of scraps from layouts I had already completed and cut a whole bunch of 1.5inch squares. You could use a square punch if you have one but I just used my paper trimmer. I then cut each one in half diagonally so that I got two triangles.

I then began randomly sticking the triangles down to the white cardstock in the pattern you see below. I really didn't have a plan for which triangles I stuck down, except for that I didn't want any of the same patterns to be touching each other.

I was not covering the whole white paper with triangles...only where I had traced the heart. I also left a bunch missing from the bottom right corner as you can see, because I knew my photo was going to go there and cover that space up....no need to waste paper, am I right?!?!

When the heart was all filled in I simply attached the patterned paper with the cut out heart on top and added my photo.

I finished off the layout with a title block, journaling and a few stickers and embellishments.

And here again is the finished product! A great way to use up small scraps, and you could use all kinds of different shapes for the cut out...maybe a star!....oooh, I've gotta try that.

Thanks so much for stopping by today, I hope you were able to find some inspiration.

~Becky

Hello all.  Welcome to the Blog again today.  I am sure you are being wowed with all the amazing creations the Girls have for you this month.  Today I am sharing My projects using the main Kit.
I had a lovely time with this kit.  Full of lovely, pretty bits and pieces, and some gorgeous papers.

Here is the Main Kit for September......

And heres what I made with it.

Layout 1
"Laugh"

Created with a Printed Paper Background, with some Papers from the kit, cut to 3x4, to Sit in behind the photo.  Elements from the kit layered to embellish, added crochet cotton, with Chipboard Alphas from the kit.  Splashes of Black ink added.

Layout 2
"Playdate"

Printed Paper background,  Some stencilling using The Crafter's Workshop 6x6 stencils and distress ink.  Added torn strips of Papers in the kit. A few Elements from the Kit...and white ink splashes added.

Layout 3
"The Words you Speak"

White Card stock Background, some remnant paper pieces cut down from the 3x4" pieces cut for the Project Life Spread.  Some elements from the embellishment packs in the kit, Splashes of black ink.  Some layered circles painted to accent.  Alphas from the kit, and hand written title fussy cut.

Layout 4
Project Life Side A
"Week 23"

This one was lovely to create, I used as many of the neutral papers and embellishments as I could and kept it nice and light.  Just adding minimal accents of red and green in the elements pack in the kit.
The Black alphas worked great too.

Layout 5
Side B

Layout 6
"My Little Buddy"

Loved using the neutral elements in the kit to keep things bright, light and airy!
Cardstock, Papers from the kit, Doily, Elements layered and stacked from the embellishment packs.
Crochet cotton added (Not in kit) Painted chipboard frame from the element pack, Gold Paint Splashes.

So that is the run down of my projects this month!
You will probably need this kit!  Its pretty nice :-)

Thanks for Stopping by.
