Design Process with Embossing by Sandi Clarkson

DT member Sandi Clarkson is sharing a look into her design process featuring our July Limited Edition Kit!

Hello, crafty people! Thanks for coming by today!

Have you ever been working on a project .. for example, using embossing powder on chipboard or a sentiment … and then found that the excess that doesn't quite make it back in the jar leaves a wonderful design or color on your craft mat or craft paper? Wish you could duplicate it? Well, that's what I tried doing to enhance the background of my layout. The embossing powder is from my own stash but I'm sure that most of us have some, right?!

As usual I worked with the lovely Limited Edition Kit and was so drawn to the neutral colors of the Kit!
Here was the beginnings of my layout after I did some paper tearing, inking of the edges and machine stitching around the page. Next, I applied some molding paste using a stencil. I went with this one because I was scrapping a beach-y page and wanted the wave-like design.

Next, I applied Versamark through my mask randomly on the page. For the type of embossing powder I was using, craft adhesive was recommended but I opted for Versamark instead.

Then I sprinkled Dusty Attic's Rusting Powder on my layout and tapped the excess back in the jar.

Because this particular powder "sets" chemically rather than with heat, I sprayed it with white (not malted) vinegar that I had poured into a little spare spray bottle. Then, all you have to do is let it set for about 15 minutes.

And here is what it looks like! Cool, huh? Now,  I am very curious what other colors and types of powder might yield similar fun results.  That's my next experiment! Anyway, the longer this dried, the more intense it became.

Just continuing along with the progression of my page, I dyed a portion of the white lace from the Kit with some Lindy's Stamp Gang Mist in Tiffany Blue. Using that same color, I used a paint brush to add some color to the top portion of my page and to my blue flower below as seen below. I collect all sorts of plastic odds and ends to put paints in. This was from an ink cartridge.

The flower was not originally a teal shade, so misting it customized it for my design.

I started building some more layers with torn pieces of paper to serves as my photo mats. I inked all the edges with Prima chalk ink in Dark Roast.

I adhered my photo in place, tucking my dyed piece of lace at the bottom and underneath it. Then I concentrated on my main embellishment cluster layering the gorgeous pearl strand at the bottom. It is so feminine and pretty! The heart shaped shabby, resin frame from Prima was perfect for my wedding page!  These are frames are absolutely gorgeous! I inked the center of the large white Prima flower with some green mist just to change it up a bit.

I added a few more flowers on the right along with some fussy cut one, sprinkled some mist here and there and finally added my title using one of the journaling strips from the embellishment sheet.  A dab of gesso on everything and I was all done! (I wanted to mention that the red flowers were altered with Lindy's Stamp Gang mist from the Limited Edition Kit to make them more coral.)

Thanks again for coming by today and letting me share my process! If you haven't signed up for a subscription to the Kit of your choice, don't hesitate to do so! Pam always has the perfect eye for detail!

July Mini Album Design with Kristin Greenwood

DT member Kristin Greenwood is up today to walk you through her creative process featuring our July Album Kit!

Here's Kristin:

>>><<<

I cant tell you how thrilled I was to find out that the July Album kit at My Creative Scrapbook featured A Charmed Life collection!  This is one of my most favorite lines of paper ever!  I love everything about it, the awesome color combo, the fun patterns, but most of all I adore that is says LUCKY & CHARMED all over!!
I am going to share the mini album I created along with some tips on how I created each page! All of the pages have some sort of pocket, that is the easiest way I know to add photos to a mini album and be able to add all the fun embellishments!

Here is a pic of the competed mini album.  The ribbon on the binding was originally a pale yellow, I used the Mister Huey's mist to color it!

Here is the cover.  Lots of layers and light distressing.  I also misted the flower, it was originally white.

On this page I cut some of the elements from the pattern paper and layered them to create a pocket.  The orange and green photo mats easily slide out for photos and/or journaling.  Also I cut a corner of the doily and misted it for another layer.

More layering and distressing using the pattern paper and die cuts that come in the kit.  I used a border punch to the 3x4 journaling card for fun!  The journaling is my pocket for the photo mats. I created this pocket by only adding my adhesive on the left side and the bottom of the card.

\
This is my favorite page in the album!  I cut out the LUCKY from the pattern paper, layered it on top of the polaroid die cut and used that for my pocket to hold my photo mats!

Lots of fussy cutting elements from the paper for this page!  I layered them all together to create the pocket here.

I used another journaling card to create a pocket on this page.  To create the window I punched the scallop circle, filled a sandwich bag (cut down to size) with some of the  Studio Calico sequins that are included in the kit, adhered the bag shut and then adhered it to the back of the card.  I added a piece of cardstock behind the window to give it a solid background so you could see the sequins better.  I popped the entire card up with dimensional adhesive.

The last page, I used a banner that I created from the pattern paper for the base of my pocket. I layered some elements I cut from the pattern paper and die cuts, along with another misted flower.  I added another corner of the doily and my album is done!

Did you know that DT member Lydell Quin receives her kit much later in the month than the rest of our team does? The postal system is pretty slow to some countries, which unfortunately leaves Lydell with limited time in which to design with her kit.  Yet, she ALWAYS amazes us with her fantastic designs!

Lindy's Stamp Gang Glitz Spritz 4 Ways by Nicole Doiron

DT member Nicole Doiron is up today with some ideas for using the Lindy's Stamp Gang Glitz Spritz that comes in our July Main Kit!

Here's Nicole:

>>><<<

This month, as you all know, the Main kit comes with a Lindy's Stamp Gang medieval gold Glitz Spritz which goes perfectly with the gold accents in the My Mind's Eye Market Street collection.

I created 4 different layouts with the Main kit and for each one, I started with plain white cardstock as the background.  I used the Lindy's Stamp Gang Glitz Spritz in 4 different ways to create a different background for each layout.

Background #1

I started by using the stencil (included in the kit) with molding paste in order to add a bit of layered texture on my background.  I dried the pattern using a heat gun.

Next, I poured some Spritz unto my crafting mat and dabbed a piece of scrunched up paper towel into it, making sure to absorb as much of the pigmented liquid as I could.

I then just simply dabbed the mist on my stenciled pattern.

Completed layout using background #1

Background #2

This technique is a bit more daring as you never quite know how it'll turn out.

I covered my scrapping mat with Spritz.

I went pretty liberal on the spritzes. :)

I then took my blank white cardstock and flipped it over the scrap mat, pressing on it in order for all the mist to transfer on to the cardstock.

And here is what I ended up with...

Completed layout using background #2

 Background #3

For this background, I simply lined up the stencil where I wanted the color effect to show on my cardstock and I sprayed some Spritz...

being careful to lift up the stencil after and drying with a heat gun.

Background #4

For my final background, I just used the Spritz as it's meant to be used...  with sprays closer or farther from the paper to make different effects and shapes.

I then dried the splatters of mist with a heat gun.

Completed layout using background #4
Note: Unfortunately, the picture of this layout came out a bit bright so the result doesn't really show.

Thank you for joining me today on my Tutorial Day!
Now, it's your turn to go Lindy's Stamp Gang Glitz Spritz crazy! :)
