Using Paint to Define Paper Edges with Izzy

Hello everyone!  Design Team member Izzy Anderson is sharing a paper-altering tip using white paint.

Here's Izzy...

On this layout, I used white paint to define the paper edges and to keep the various patterns from visually blending together.

You could achieve the same effect by framing each piece of patterned paper with white cardstock, but white paint is quicker and less expensive and gives the page a more casual feel.

Simple Ribbon Flower with Jamie

Hello everyone!  Hope you're enjoying your weekend.  Today Design Team member Jamie Harder is sharing instructions for creating a simple but super cute ribbon flower!

Here's Jamie...

Supplies: You will need ribbon, thread and needle.
Posted Image

Your first step is to thread your needle and start to stitch on one side of the ribbon:
Posted Image

Now just continue stitching:

Once you are finished threading it will look like this:
Posted Image

Now you can tie the thread at one end and then pull the thread until is scrunches up to make a flower shape:
Posted Image

If it doesn't quite make it all the way around, feel free to add more stitches until it does. Now you can tie a knot on the other end of the thread, cut off remaining thread and stitch the two ends together.

And, voila, a beautiful flower. You are ready to add a brad or button to the middle and add it to your project!Posted Image

Some CHA Photos Plus a Step By Step Layout Tutorial with Zoe

Guess who's at CHA ordering like crazy to bring us all of the coolest new products?!

Pam Rangel and Delaina Burns, of course!  Look how lovely they are together!!!  We all wish we could be there with them, but we know that they are getting us all of the latest and greatest for our kits.  YEA!!!

Next, we have a wonderful step-by-step tutorial from Design Team member Zoe Nemburt today!  Here's Zoe...

Hi Ladies, I have a step by step for a layout I created using the brand new and super gorgeous Carta Bella line.

I'm using Carta Bella Damask as the background, with the sheet of paper named Chickadee cut 3 inches from two sides away from the bird though as he's pretty and we will use him in our design.

Posted Image

With the 3x12 strip you just cut away punch 4 strips... or you can trim each edge with decorative scissors.

Posted Image

Optional - Ink all your edges. I use a ditress ink from Tim Holtz this colour is Pumice Stone.

Now we will attach the punched edges to the back of the 9x9 square leaving approximately 1/4 inch edge peeking from the back. Use a good glue or tape runner.

Next cut a 2 inch strip from the Stipes Paper and a 5x7 piece from the pink side. Ink edges if you wish.

Using stencils is a great way to fill a space or to create extra texture on your page. I do this before I glue anything downbut I use my pieces as a guide so I know I wont be covering everything up when I add my additional papers. To ink just hold your stencil in place with one hand and with your other hand using a ink applicator make small circular mothiong refreshing your ink applicator often.

Posted Image

with the 2 x 12 inch strip from the stripes paper tear almost an inch off from each end then glue down, then layer a 5x7 piece into the bottom right corner of your 9x9 piece and adhere

With the Cherish Paper cut out a border of 5 diamonds, Adhere a length of ribbon accross the length of the striped paper and then adhere the diamond border on top.

Posted Image

Next add your picture into the 5x7 space, and decorate as you wish ir copy the picture below. Also add a title for this one I used one of the included sticker "Beautiful Moments" and mounted it onto cardstock and then added it into place on my page.

I am a Elementary School teacher but I am taking some time off to stay home with our son. I got started scrapbooking about 10 years ago and later started making cards and other projects. Most recently I have started playing around with Mixed Media as well.  Papercrafting is my passion and I am so excited to be able to share it with you. I am thrilled to be a part of the My Creative Sketches Team! Please stop by and visit my blog at www.scrapcircus.blogspot.com.

Bonnie Friesen
Hi! My name is Bonnie aka Cinnabon,
I am a wife to George of 26 yrs, a mother to two young adults. Jerica is 23, married almost 1 yr, and lives in Wpg and works in a hair salon full time. Jordan is 20, and works at our local Bible Camp as their "techy" sound man and in charge of the climbing wall. This is his 4th summer working there. Its amazing how time flies! I was a hairstylist for 24 yrs and am now retired due to health issues. Here are a few things you need to know about me... I have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, I LOVE slurpee's and the color pink! In any form! I started scrapbooking in September/08, after my dear Mother passed away from cancer. It has been a life saver for me as I work through my grief and allow my creativity to flow. Scrapping has become a big part of my life, and it is something I love to share with anyone who is willing to look at my work. I consider my scrapping as art. I am very detailed orientated and therefore have great difficulty keeping my layouts simple with alot of "white space". I love doing sketches as they stretch my creativity and prevent me from getting stuck in a creative rut! I am extremely happy to be on the Design Team for My Creative Sketches! Check out my blog at:  pretty little somethings

Jodi Baune
I am so thrilled and honored to be a member of the My Creative Sketches team! I am a dedicated, fun-loving country girl with two boys ages 18 and 23, and an amazing husband. I am very blessed that they are extremely supportive of my hobby.

I am the shy, quiet type...most of the time :) I am a weird mix of girly girl and tom boy. Pedicures are awesome, but I'm not afraid to dip my pretty toes in a puddle or two! Pretty much, I am just the girl next door. During the day I tend to 8 precious small children by operating a daycare business in my home. Some of my other interest include gardening, reading, and browsing through antique shops for inspiration. I love vintage!

Veronica Goh
I hail from the sunny island of Singapore, and am a full-time working mother of two beautiful girls, who form the subjects for most of my layouts and projects.

I was introduced to scrapbooking in 2007, and it has become a passion with me, as is art and photography, all three of which I think go hand in hand beautifully, capturing and preserving those very special moments in our lives.

I enjoy designing projects in the shabby-chic style, with lots of flowers, inking, tearing and distressing, fussy cutting and layering. Very 3-dimensional, with lots of texture. And I also enjoy trying out new styles and learning and experimenting with new techniques that I can incorporate into my projects, as I think these allow me to stretch my boundaries and to grow and evolve in terms of my creativity.

I often draw inspiration from a variety of sources - from the photo or products I see before me, to online galleries and unusual art pieces, to beautiful sketches I come across. I'm currently also teaching on a freelance basis at a leading LSS here, and am very honored and absolutely delighted to be joining the super talented team at MCS!

Yuko Tanaka
My name is Yuko Tanaka live in Japan with my husband and one beautiful daughter. She was born this year, I enjoying child-rearing. I started sorted our wedding photos and organizing so that I could start “scrapbooking” in 2007. Now absorbed in leaving a proof of a daughter's growth.

My style of scrapbooking is constantly changing and I always look for new techniques and ideas. I currently love mist ,ink on my pages. I'm excited and honored to be join this team!!!

Adding Color to Flower Embellishments with Angel

Hello!  We're back today with a wonderful tip from Design Team member Angel Rodrigue.

Here's Angel...

To add some light hint of color to my roses I used a distress Marker from Tim Holtz and brushed the tips lightly...

Then I spritzed it with Maya Road Glitter Spray...
