Limited Edition pocket by Jolaine

Being a teacher myself, I know how hard teachers work so I'm always looking for cute ideas to show my daughter's teacher how much I appreciate her. I decided to make her a pocket full of treats for Valentine's day. I really like how it turned out, and I'll share how it was created...

Posted Image

I began by scoring a glassine bag, then measuring my bag. I knew I wanted my bag to stick out a little bit for a more handmade look. The bag I'm using is 7X4.5 and was purchased on Ebay.

Posted Image

I then cut a piece of brown cardstock that measured 6X10 and scored it at 4 inches. That will create a pocket that is 6 inches tall in the back and 4 inches tall in the front to nicely display our bag of treats.

Posted Image

Next, cut two pieces of coordinating pattern papers a quarter of an inch smaller for each panel. That means we'll need a piece of paper that measures 3.75X5.75 for the front and a second piece of pattern paper that measures 5.75X5.75 for the back panel.

Posted Image

I inked both pieces of paper with Tea Dye Distress Ink before adhering. I also used hot glue to attach some lace to the front border.

Posted Image

Instead of glue, I used my sewing machine to stitch around the bottom and sides of my pocket.

Posted Image

Finally decorate as desired. I used pearls, rub-bons, flowers and the little metal frame included in the kit. The sentiment inside the frame was printed onto pattern paper by combining two different font styles on my computer. I also decorated the bag after filling it up with Dove milk chocolates.

I hope you liked this tutorial. I really enjoyed creating this fun pocket, it was really easy and I hope you give it a try!

Altered flowers and Altered chipboard tutorials

How to alter the mistable flowers by Delaina

I used these paints to create some sprays for the mistable flowers in the kit...I simply filled the bottle 3/4 of the way to the top and added a few drops of paint. I then spayed the flowers letting them dry between coats so there weren't saturated and distorted. It's a great way and inexpensive way to make you own mists....

Kirstine has this to share about her work on the Feb. album kit:

The album kit comes with some wonderful raw chipboard shapes!

Posted Image

Here's how I altered the scalloped chipboard pieces in the above layout.

Posted Image

First I applied two coats of baby pink acrylic paint and let them dry.

Posted Image

Next I painted a very light coat of white acrylic paint on top of the pink and let them dry.

Posted Image

Then I added a light layer of clear rock candy distress crackle paint and let dry.
I didn't want the crackles to be too obvious on these so I only used a little bit of the paint.

Posted Image

To help blend it all together and soften everything up, I rubbed pink chalk ink all over the painted surfaces.
That's it!

give this a try

Romy ...photo tips and techniques and how to extend your pattern paper

Pam always puts together such gorgeous kits and the LE kit this month just blew me away. I really wanted to use every little bit of it, so I tried to use my papers in an efficient way. To show you what I mean with that, I'll post a photo of the process of making my fourth layout with this kit: 'Garden'.

When I use a small square of paper, I usually cut it from the inside of the paper sheet. In that way you can use the outer edges to mat another piece of paper. That's what I did with this music note paper too.
I also had a small piece of brown paper left, with a few flowers cut out of it:
Posted Image

When I stuck it all down, white cardstock was visible in the cover. But you can easily cover that up by adapting your design to it. Stick down a few other piece of paper on the cardstock to cover it up:

Use your embellishments in the left corner and you won't see anything of it anymore:

Love,
Romy

One of my newest obsessions is to print my photos with white edges. I used to mat all my photos, but this is a much more cheap solution to make your photos stand out a bit more.

Posted Image

Something else you could do with these photos with white edges, is use two of the same photos overlapping each other. It will make your photo really pop off the page:

Rachael...How I create a page, ribbon technique and bulky elements tip

When I create a page I assemble the whole design before I stick anything down but that can make it a bit difficult when adding elements like lace and ribbon, to get over that I attach them onto paper (if possible) so I can move them easily around the page.

Posted Image

I pleated the lace along the strip of paper holding it in place with a bit of repro herma and then stitched it down.

Also I have this tip:

I like to layer lots of papers and elements together but sometimes that means that they are too bulky to lay flat on the project.

Posted Image

On this card I stitched the lace around the edge of the circle and then added a circle of chipboard to the back, this allowed the lace room to lay flat on the card without being squashed between the two pieces of paper. I have also added piece a of chipboard underneath the two rectangles of paper. Using the chipboard also gives your project extra depth.

Here is my ribbon tip:

Pleated ribbon or paper makes a great addition to a page, here is how I did it on this page....

Posted Image

Posted Image

Cut off the strip from the bottom of the patterned paper and run a line of double sided tape along a short lenght of it.

Posted Image

Pleat the ribbon along the strip.

Posted Image

Machine stitch it into place.

Posted Image

1. Apply distress ink with a sponge (I love the effect where the bumpy parts of the petals get colored)
Posted Image

2. Use a paint brush, add some water and a little bit of shimmerz paint. Apply it on the center of the flower.
