Announcing an additon to our Sketch design team Shell Carman

Hi There! I'm Shell Carman, Mum to 3 kids: Hunter 6, Kayla, 3 & Evie 1.
I married my high school sweetheart Craig in Fiji 7 years ago.

I am completely addicted to Scrapping! I love doing it, I love talking about it & I love shopping for it LOL! My style is an eclectic Shabby Chic mix. Sometimes I like it to be clean & straight lines & sometimes really distressed. All my pages have lot's of layers & embellies. My favorite part of scrapping is using lot's of pretties on my page especially flowers.

I started scrapping to preserve our memories. I still like to do this but I think now I scrap more for the creative outlet & the chance to chat & make new friends! Scrapping has given me a chance to 'meet' people from all around the world.

I am a huge fan of sketches! I find sketches so helpful to get me started. I am so excited to be part of the My Creative Scrapbook sketch team!

How did I do that ... Altering kit items by Rachael

I love the transparencies that Glitz produce and I wanted this frame to really stand out on my page.



Draw around the transparency onto a piece of kraft paper and cut it out.

Add ink to all the edges and any areas that will clearly show through the transparency.



Stick the transparency back on top of the kraft only adding adhesive to areas that won't show.

What a difference an edge can make....

This is how my basic page started, for me the layers just don't stand out enough but there are some easy ways to add definition.



I ink all the edges of pretty much everything that I add to my pages using either distress ink or chalk ink.



Distressing the edges, I use a Tim Holtz distressing tool but you can just as easily use the edge of your scissors or an emery board/nail file.The great thing about distressing is you can do as little or as much as your like, even going as far as screwing up the paper and ripping it.



I love to use my sewing machine on my layouts, if you don't have a machine you can always add hand stitching or draw on fake stitching.

If you compare photo 1 with photo 4 I think you will agree defining each layer by edging the paper makes a huge differenc

How did I do that... Altering flowers in the kit by Melissa

Here's a quick tutorial on how I colored the flowers on my Family it's about Time page



Supplies Used:

Glimmer Mist (Patina & Olive Vine)
Paintbrush
Prima Flower



First I sprayed a little of each color of Glimmer Mist into the paint tray and added a few sprays of water to each color to help water is down a little



Then I very carefully pulled the bottom layer of the flower off and lightly painted the edge with the Patina Glimmer Mist. I left the top two layers of the flower together and painted the edges of them with the Patina Glimmer Mist too.



Next I painted the middle of the bottom layer and the very top layer with Olive Vine Glimmer Mist. I didn't paint the middle layer with the Olive Vine.



Last I just dried the flower with my heat gun and hot glued it back together

How did I do that ..embellishing and distressing by Romy

I simply loved the chipboard chandelier in this kit and wanted it to be a real eye-catcher on my layout.

I first outlined some of the brown lines on the chandelier with a black fineliner. Just doodle some circles wherever you wish for a nice personal touch!


After that I took my perlen pens (Liquid Pearls will work perfectly too; I think the main difference between the Viva pens and Liquid Pearls is that the Viva pearls are more similar to real pearls, while Liquid Pearls can be used to make very small, but a little less real looking dots) for some finishing touches and adhered a brown bow to the top of the chandelier.

On my layout 'NYC' I did some rough distressing on the background paper. I think distressing always adds such a wonderful extra touch to your page. It can give every paper collection a vintage twist and it can add a whole lot of dimension too. On a few places of the paper I distressed the edges a bit heavier. The final result looked like this:



I first inked the edges using distress ink 'Walnut Stain', which is a wonderful dark brown tone. Then I started distressing with my Heidi Swapp tool and I made sure I distressed a bit rougher on a few places:



Behind those places I adhered a small piece of kraft cardstock. Because of the rough distressing, part of the kraft cardstock will be peeking out at the front side.

Of course you could also use an entire sheet of kraft cardstock as a base for your layout, but since only a few small parts of the kraft cardstock are peeking out, I prefered using small pieces instead of an entire sheet.



And in the end I used my distress ink once again. In this way the edges of the kraft cardstock will have a nice brown edge now too. I applied the ink using a small sponge:



My final result, with a few roughly distressed edges, looked like this:

How did I do that ...Dusty Attic Dress form by Angel

Here is How I did the Dress Form...

I made Blocks of 3 1/2 x3 1/2, 2 1/2,x2 1/2, and 1x1 inches..
I folded corner to corner and added hot glue to hold it in place. I then Layered it on my dress form startin with the 3 1/2 Inich and next layer 2 1/2 inch then Last layer .I used Glue gun to do this. (But you can use any fast Drying Glue) Then I glossy accented the remaining Piece and sprinkled Glitter . Once that Dried I attached a piece of Lace to the bodice, and made her a waist with Roses..

How did I do that .. Dusty attic frame altered

The Nov. Main Kit has Gorgeous Ornate Frame from Dusty Attic...

I simply painted it white and added some Stickles...

A little hint....If you turn it over, it has a distressed look with just a little white paint peaking. I cut the Frame into pieces and used it on 2 LOs with this kit.
