Paper cutting with Heather!

Hey, crafty friends..I have layouts to share using the My Creative Scrapbook Kit Club November Main Kit filled with the Simple Stories "Autumn Splendor" collection!

This collection has beautiful plaids, and deep fall shades of pumpkins, leaves, and all things Autumn...which is my fave time of the year!!

My first layout using this kit is a simple one, but when you are provided with a patterned paper with a gorgeous wreath that screams "cut me out!", that's what you do!  When you are looking at any patterned papers, if you aren't crazy about the paper as a whole, think about how you can change it to make it work for you...i.e. cut elements out, ink large parts with sprays or ink pads,  etc.

In this case, I wanted that wreath, but I also wanted dimension. 

Therefore, I cut the wreath out including the inside, and added foam adhesive before placing on my background.  For maximum contrast, I pulled a piece of orange cardstock from my stash and matted it on another piece of brown cardstock. 

For shading, I used Distress Oxide Carved Pumpkin with an ink blender to add some ink around my wreath.  Then, added my large 5x7 photo of myself, mom and daughter inside the wreath.

To embellish, I added some chipboard and die cuts tucked around my photo.  For finishing touches, I used my Tonic shimmer pen to add some sparkle to my flowers and die cuts, then added Tonic Crystal Glaze.  I love used Tonic Crystal Glaze or Glossy accents to flat die cuts because its adds shine and shimmer like an epoxy embellishment!

Some of the embellishments on my layout are also from the 2x2 cut apart paper.  I love it when collections include these types of patterned papers because I am able to stretch my supplies and cut out my own die cuts!

With a large background element like a wreath and a large photo, I didn't feel like it added a lot of embellishing as to keep focus on those two areas.
